A Secure Enclave (or similar secure element/TEE) is isolated hardware that protects cryptographic keys and biometric templates so the main OS cannot freely extract them.

Real-World Example

Face ID templates stored such that even the main iPhone OS cannot export them rely on Secure Enclave protections.
