How to take part

Open a term, choose a name the community will see, and write. Your browser can remember the name for next time.

  • Comment on each term

Open the term and write in the thread. Choose a display name — no email, account, or invite.

  • Propose a rendering

Suggest Tibetan or Chinese wording with a short rationale. Name the source when you have one (usage, dialect, or a working coinage).

  • Reply and refine

Read what others wrote. Compare senses, flag a weak calque, or thumb up a rendering you agree with.

  • Help it land in the glossary

Agreement is a signal, not a vote that publishes. A fair source plus a clear rendering, with people agreeing, is more likely to be accepted — the editor still checks sense before it goes in.

  • Follow the log

The Community page lists who wrote, on which term, and when. Catch up without opening every entry.

Keep this space constructive

Short guidelines so the workshop stays a good place to learn.

  1. Critique the wording, not the person

Assume good intent. Many of us are learning the domain and the language at the same time.

  2. Lead with a proposal

A suggested rendering plus one sentence of why is more useful than “this feels wrong.”

  3. Credit your source

Editorial coinage, an adaptation, or community usage — say which, and note dialect or sense when it matters.

  4. N/A is allowed

If no sound equivalent is ready, say so. Inventing a weak calque helps no one.

  5. Use a name you can stand behind

Display names are not verified. Do not impersonate others. Emails and links in the name field are rejected.

  6. Keep the thread a classroom

English, Tibetan, and Chinese are all welcome. Comments are public, so write as if a learner is reading. No harassment, sarcasm as a weapon, or dumping untranslated walls of text.

When you propose Tibetan

  • Editorial — chosen or coined from expertise and usage
  • Adapted — based on a published source, adjusted for this glossary’s sense
  • Community — a contributor suggestion (may be refined later)

FAQ

No. Open any term, choose a display name, and post. This is intentional so people in places where email is hard to use can still take part. Your display name — not an email — appears on the comment.
