Definition

A middle relay is a Tor node in the middle of a circuit. It passes encrypted traffic between the guard and the exit, and does not see both who you are and which site you visit.

Real-World Example

Volunteer-run middle relays that only forward onion-encrypted packets, never the final website name in the clear.
