Definition

A social credit system scores people, firms, or regions on compliance and “trustworthiness,” then ties that score to rewards or penalties — travel, loans, school, or public shaming — using records from government and commercial databases.

Real-World Example

A court-defaulter list that blocks someone from buying a high-speed train ticket is one well-known piece of China’s broader social credit machinery.
