Definition

Encryption transforms readable data (plaintext) into an unreadable form (ciphertext) using a mathematical process and a key. Only someone with the correct key can reverse the process and recover the original data.

Real-World Example

When you visit a website that starts with https://, your browser encrypts data sent between you and the site. Passwords you type and personal details stay protected in transit.
