Definition

ROM (read-only memory) is storage meant to keep firmware or data that is not rewritten in normal use. On phones, people also say “ROM” for a whole system image, which is a looser use of the word.

Real-World Example

The chip that holds a router’s factory firmware so it can boot even after a power cut.
